Division: Financial & Administrative
Reports to: Chief Financial & Administrative Officer
Supports: General Secretariat
Oversees: Head of Press Operations and Media Services, Head of Editorial, Senior Management of Corporate Communications.
Position based in: CONCACAF Headquarters, Miami Beach, FL

COMPANY INFORMATION:

We are “The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football” and one of six continental confederations of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). CONCACAF serves as the governing body of football in this part of the world. It is composed of 41 national associations united by the passion for football, from Canada in the north to Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana in the south.

CONCACAF is committed to develop, promote and manage football throughout the region.  

POSITION PURPOSE:

CONCACAF is looking for an experienced communications professional. This highly visible, hands-on role will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing all aspects of the Confederation’s internal and external communication strategies.

The incumbent will report to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and will maintain constant interaction with the General Secretariat, all functional departments of the Confederation, the President’s office as well as clubs, national teams and soccer federations from around the region. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, along with General Secretary and Senior Management the Confederation’s key position messages as necessary
  • Prepare and maintain the Confederation’s crisis management plan
  • Oversee the production of official news releases that cover all aspects of the Confederation’s business
  • Identify and curate content ideas for media and broadcast consumption
  • Manage the planning and implementation of all aspects of the Confederation’s news conferences
  • Perform the duties of a Confederation spokesperson
  • Develop and manage the Communications department’s budget as well as its sub-departments
  • Responsible for the timely production of background papers, briefs and talking points for senior management; prepare and media train senior management for interviews
  • Develop public relations strategies for key events, including Gold Cup and Champions League
  • Oversee relationship with outside parties contracted to manage media aspects of major events
  • Coaches and guides senior management in terms of communicating with the media and other external entities.
  • Responsible for developing a monthly report for senior management on all media monitoring reports
  • Cultivate local influencer network to promote the Confederation in organic ways
  • Develop and maintain proactive professional relationships with Heads of Communications within FIFA and Member Association
  • Develop plan for improving level of media officers in the region; creating regional professional development seminars and integrating top candidates into CONCACAF events
  • Produce plan to raise profile of Confederation at major global events, such as FIFA World Cups
  • Other related duties as required.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities 

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, MBA highly desirable
  • 8+ years of experience on corporate communications and/ or public relations (preferably within the sports industry)
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) with superior verbal communication and writing skills with emphasis on proper grammar, etiquette and ability to concisely summarize facts and actions in both languages
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills, in order to work effectively with clients, internal management/co-workers and partner vendors/agencies
  • Proven track record of successful communications and/or PR campaigns
  • Ability to solve issues in a multicultural environment
  • Key knowledge of soccer industry and language
  • P&L management and strong analytical skills
  • Proven experience in public speaking roles or experience serving as an industry spokes person
  • 5+ years of proven supervisory experience with the ability to hire, manage and mentor staff
  • Candidate must have the flexibility to travel nationally and internationally for the performance of his/her duties. Approximate travel requirement: 40-50%
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules including game nights to reflect the business needs of the company.
