SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – It is safe to say that Costa Rica’s spirits are high as the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup resumes this week

The second-place Ticos (2W-1D-1L, 7 points) have brought an impressive roster to camp – including Bryan Ruiz, the 2016 CONCACAF Player of the Year -- looking for wins at home on matchdays five (June 8 v Panama, 5 points) and six (June 13 v Trinidad & Tobago, 4 points).

“There are players of great quality,” Palermo defender Giancarlo Gonzalez said about his teammates. “We are a very good generation that has done great things and the fans know it. For that reason, whoever’s turn it is to play is going to be supported.

“It will be the coach [Oscar Ramirez] who makes the decision of who will play and we will respect it because we have trust that whoever does sit, will do it in the best manner.”

Similarly, midfielder David Guzman believes that the supportive environment within the Costa Rican team has been key to the successful qualifying campaign.

“Here we are all working for the same shirt, we came to work because we want to go to the World Cup, so it’s up to us to support whoever plays,” said Guzman, who plays for the Portland Timbers.

Cristian Gamboa also highlighted the fact that Costa Rica’s next two matches will be at home, where is it’s a perfect 4-0-0 overall in qualifying for Russia 2018.

“We have a great chance and the nice experience of having two consecutive matches at home with our fans, so we do not want to drop not even a single point and less so at home,” the 27-year-old Celtic defender finished. “We have taken the matches at home really well and we hope to continue with all six points.”
