Futsal: Group A Recap (Aug. 21, 2017)

TEGUCIGALPA, HondurasElite Futsal and tournament host Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan (UPNFM) opened Group A play in the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship with wins on Monday.

Here’s a look at the action from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazan:

Elite Futsal (USA) 2, Soyapango FC (El Salvador) 0

Pablo Daniel Da Silva gave Elite Futsal a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute and Thiago Mendes Goncalves doubled the advantage in the 29th minute in a 2-0 win over Soyapango. 

UPNFM (Honduras) 7, FAX Futsal (Guadeloupe) 0

Fernando Pineda (7’, 30’) and Erick Guzman (18’, 22’) scored two goals each as UPNFM topped FAX Futsal, 7-0.  It was an impressive performance by the host, which netted four times in the first half and added three more after the break.  Antonio Moncada (7’), Marco Timino (9’) and Carlos Mendez (40’) also scored in a winning effort. 

Next Up in Group A on Tuesday (all times local): FAX Futsal will look to bounce back against Elite Futsal (3:00 p.m.), while UPNFM takes on Soyapango FC (8:00 p.m.).
